Aventurine - Stone of the week

This week’s stone, Aventurine is also most commonly green. It can be many other colours as well though including red, blue, white, brown, peach, pink, orange, yellow and grey. Its name comes from the ‘aventurescence’ which is the reflective ability of the stone. However, I prefer the version that its name came from its lucky discovery in the 18th Century as the Italian word ‘a ventura’ meaning ‘by chance’. If there are any Italian speakers in my audience then you will know that this is the archaic way of saying “by chance” as opposed to the modern “per caso”.

The darker colours of green Aventurine are sometimes mistaken for malachite. The orange colour can also be mistaken for sunstone (both are on my list of stones to cover later in the year, so watch this space…).

Attributes of Aventurine:

  • Zodiac stone for Virgo and Gemini

  • Improves prosperity

  • Said to be the luckiest stone

  • Associated with the heart chakra

  • Increases your optimism for living

  • Helps to build self-confidence

  • Green Aventurine is said to be linked to the earth and it is thought that it may help to protect from environmental pollution

  • The stone is also said to be useful for soothing quick tempers or harsh temperaments

I use Aventurine in my chakra jewellery for the heart chakra and in my secret message jewellery. Admittedly I use it for the letter ‘e’ (Emerald Aventurine) which is a bit of a cheat, but it is a beautiful green and I love the attributes it has. The bracelets pictured on the left spell out ‘dream’ (from the top; Dalmation Jasper, Rose Quartz, Emerald Aventurine, Amethyst, Moonstone). What would your secret message say?

Best wishes
