Who has heard of Morganite? It’s getting to be very popular as an engagement ring stone. It is from the Beryl family (as is Emerald) and is a gorgeous pastel pink colour. The colour ranges from peach pink through to lilac pink. It is another “new” stone as it was discovered in California in the first decade of the 20th century. Until it was named after a banker who had an interest in stones in 1911 it was known as pink beryl. It has now been discovered in other countries. The largest stone was found in Madagascar and has now been cut and faceted and weighs in at 598.7 carats.
